Microneedling for skin rejuvenation has become one of the most sought-after treatments for achieving glowing, healthy-looking skin. If you are new to the concept or simply curious, this guide will help answer some of the most frequently asked questions about microneedling. At AVIVA Dermatology in the area of Houston and Sugar Land, Texas, our team is here to help you understand this innovative treatment and how it can work for you.
Our team defines microneedling as a procedure that is minimally invasive, employing small needles to produce micro-injuries on the surface of the skin. These deliberate injuries activate the body’s inherent healing mechanism, promoting the generation of collagen and elastin. This process completely rejuvenates the skin, making it appear firmer, smoother, and much more youthful with time.
The purpose of microneedling is to improve the appearance and texture of your skin. It addresses issues including fine lines, wrinkles, scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone. By stimulating collagen production, microneedling promotes long-lasting skin rejuvenation for a more radiant complexion.
Most patients find microneedling to be very tolerable. A numbing cream is administered to the skin before the procedure to minimize any discomfort. Post-treatment, you might notice mild redness and sensitivity, similar to a sunburn, but these effects usually subside within 24-48 hours.
The number of microneedling sessions you need depends heavily on your specific skin concerns and skin goals. Many of our patients here at AVIVA Dermatology see noticeable improvement after a single session, but a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is often recommended for optimal results.
One of the main benefits of microneedling is that it requires minimal downtime. While your skin might look slightly red and feel sensitive immediately after the procedure, most people return to their regular activities the next day. Be sure you closely follow your post-care instructions and keep your skin protected from the sun.
Microneedling is considered suitable for most skin types and tones. It is an excellent option for individuals looking to address aging skin, scarring, or uneven texture. However, patients with active skin infections, certain medical conditions, or a tendency to form keloid scars should consult their dermatologist to ensure it is the right choice for them.
