How Do Fillers Work?
Fillers, also called injectables, work by filling in fine lines. They can be made of a variety of ingredients that work in different areas of the body. Injectables provide dermal support to smooth fine lines and add volume where it has been lost. Selecting the appropriate filler for the area of concern is important to achieve desired results. Fillers are often used in many locations such as the under eye area, cheeks, lips and chin. Soft tissue procedures rejuvenate the aging face and hands.
How Does Botox® Work?
Botox® is a type of neuromodulator used to minimize wrinkles by temporarily restricting facial muscles. Similar to other products, such as Dysport® and Xeomin®, Botox® is typically injected between the eyebrows, on frown lines, and on crow’s feet to smooth wrinkles. These areas make-up your facial expressions. Neuromodulators temporarily freeze the muscles, so as you frown or move your facial muscles, lines and wrinkles do not form.
How Long Do Fillers Last?
Fillers can last from 6-12 months depending on what product is selected and the location the filler is placed. Some factors, including the patient’s skin and injection site, can affect how long they last. Because there are many different types of filler.
How Long Does Botox® Last?
You will see the results of Botox for about 4-6 months, but this varies by person and location of the injections.
How long do Botox results usually last?
The muscle-relaxing effects of Botox are temporary and typically remain noticeable for about three to four months. Exactly how long your results last depends on factors such as the treatment area, your natural muscle activity, metabolism, and how frequently you receive injections. As muscle movement gradually returns, expression lines slowly become visible again. Patients who prefer a consistently refreshed appearance often schedule maintenance visits throughout the year. Dr. Simone Stalling can recommend an interval that fits your individual treatment goals.
Which areas can be treated with Botox?
Botox can be used in several parts of the face and neck to soften lines created by repeated muscle movement. Common cosmetic treatment areas include the forehead, the lines between the eyebrows, the outer corners of the eyes, the bridge of the nose, the chin, and vertical neck bands. Depending on your concerns, Botox may also be appropriate for certain medical conditions involving excessive muscle activity or sweating. During your consultation, Dr. Stalling will determine which areas can be treated safely while maintaining natural facial movement.
Is Botox only used for cosmetic purposes?
No. While Botox is well known for reducing the appearance of facial lines, it also has several established medical uses. Depending on the diagnosis, it may be recommended to help manage excessive underarm sweating, chronic migraine headaches, muscle spasms, or jaw tension caused by teeth grinding or clenching. Some patients also choose Botox before deeper expression lines become permanently etched into the skin. The appropriate use depends on your medical history, symptoms, and treatment objectives.
What should I know about Botox safety and possible side effects?
When administered by a trained medical professional, Botox has an established safety record and is well tolerated by most patients. Temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or mild tenderness at the injection sites are the most common side effects and usually resolve within a few days. Less frequently, patients may experience temporary weakness in nearby muscles, slight asymmetry, or eyelid drooping, depending on the treatment location. Before treatment, Dr. Stalling will review your medical history, discuss potential risks, and determine whether Botox is an appropriate option for you.
How is Botox different from dermal fillers?
Although both injectable treatments are commonly used for facial rejuvenation, they achieve results in different ways. Botox works by temporarily reducing the activity of specific facial muscles that create expression lines during smiling, frowning, or squinting. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, are designed to restore lost facial volume, enhance contours, and soften deeper folds by providing structural support beneath the skin. In many cases, combining both treatments creates a more balanced result because each addresses a different aspect of facial aging.
